WALLINGFORD, Conn. – October 24, 2007 – VBrick Systems, Inc. today introduced the Reflector Appliance, which streams high-quality digital video using available bandwidth across Wide Area Networks (WANs) to extend video communications to branch offices at the network edge. The Reflector Appliance provides a reliable and affordable streaming solution that delivers video applications to remote locations – providing staff in other regions with important communications tools and added resources traditionally not available to remote employees.
Today’s networked economy frees organizations from geographical constraints when expanding their operations and capitalizing on new markets. The promise of global connectivity, however, is tempered by the realities of low-bandwidth links to branch offices, technology infrastructure costs, and centralized IT management requirements to minimize expensive IT administration at branch locations.
To overcome these communications and administration challenges, the Reflector Appliance broadcasts a single, low-bandwidth video stream across a WAN link in Windows Media format. A branch office equipped with a Reflector Appliance can then rebroadcast the high-quality video and audio from the WAN link in real time to branch office viewers – while only consuming the bandwidth required for a single stream.
"The rapid shift toward an increasingly distributed workforce requires organizations to provide business tools and resources to employees regardless of location," said Rich Mavrogeanes, founder and chief technology officer, VBrick Systems, Inc. "VBrick overcomes bandwidth limitations by providing reliable and cost-effective video streaming capabilities across WANs that enable branch offices to collaborate with other offices, watch breaking news and live events, and enhance training."
In addition, the Reflector Appliance is equipped with an optional hard drive to store and "time-shift" video content playback. Live delivery, combined with storing and time-shifting video files on VBrick appliances, enable users across the globe to view and replay important corporate communications, product training, digital signage, and other valuable content during their traditional workdays.
Users can deploy Reflector Appliances locally and centrally manage video streaming to all branch offices. The Reflector Appliance streams video in both unicast and multicast to provide organizations with added flexibility when broadcasting video throughout a global network.
The Reflector Appliance builds on VBrick’s digital video appliance heritage to provide economical and reliable digital video solutions. VBrick is a digital video market leader and owns more than 40 percent of the global corporate encoder market, according to Frost & Sullivan*. VBrick network video appliances provide the enterprise-class performance to deliver live and stored video across the globe. Approximately the size of a dictionary, VBrick video appliances digitize, transmit, receive, and record IP video for live video streaming and additional applications. VBrick network video appliances support multiple digital video standards to provide users with the flexibility to record and view digital video in multiple formats.
