Wallingford, Conn. – March 8, 2010 – VBrick today announced that Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Penn State College of Medicine have tapped VBrick to provide reliable and secure streaming of live and on-demand video for training medical students and staff.
Penn State College of Medicine instructs hundreds of students each year in surgical procedures. By installing VBrick’s IP video streaming technology, staff and lecturers can now access on-demand video of those procedures from any network-enabled computer across the campus and medical center complex. These procedures are not only captured for viewing, but faculty members are able to edit the video and play it back to students, significantly extending student learning opportunities.
“Live surgical video has been a part of our curriculum for the past few years, but never before have our instructors been able to view the video, edit the content, and play back the most important aspects in the classroom,” explained Dr. Russ Scaduto, Director of Education Technology at Penn State College of Medicine. “With VBrick, we are able to go well beyond ‘textbook education’ and provide the most innovative and effective learning opportunities to all of our students.”
VBrick’s versatile video-over-IP solutions allow the college to stream video across any network without impacting the performance of other critical networked applications. The captured video is saved within the college’s newly formed video library, accessed through VBrick’s Enterprise Media Systems video portal. The portal provides credentialed users with free access to the video library, while also protecting privacy under HIPAA, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
“We’re thrilled to be able to work with Penn State College of Medicine and continue our commitment to supplying the higher-education community with innovative IP video streaming solutions,” said John Shaw, chief operating officer for VBrick. “We will continue to match this sector’s dedication to education by engineering and bringing to market the most reliable, secure video technology available.”
