Rev Set Up - Getting Started
How to Prepare Out-of-the-Box Features
Account Admins are responsible for setting up many of the features that come out-of-the-box with a new Rev Online Help environment that user accounts will have access to when you launch your media management platform.
There is no exact order that you must use when setting up a new environment but some features depend on others to be implemented first before they may be used. To get you up-to-speed quickly, the checklists below point you to helpful topics for setting up Rev Online Help so that your users are ready to go with minimal downtime after your Rev Online Help purchase.
User Interface / Video on Demand (VOD) Prep
The following topics help you set up your Rev environment for your end-users by preparing your graphic user interface and initial content for launch.

Tip: As noted, you do not have to follow topics in order. That said, it is recommended that you prepare your UI/VOD settings first or set up your user accounts last (if your email server is set up during implementation). If you do not, you will invite new users into a “blank” environment.

Media and Custom Settings
Decide which features will be available for your media. Create your video categories if you have enabled them. Decide how your content will expire by creating expiration rules. Create custom fields for metadata specific to your organization on your videos if desired.
"The Features Module"
"Create or Edit a Category or Subcategory"
"Set Up or Delete a Custom Field"
"Add or Edit a Content Expiration Rule"

Brand Your Environment
Customize the Rev environment with your own brand, theme, or colors if desired. Decide if you need metadata fields specific to your organization and create them and customize the Rev Home Page specific to your needs as well.
"Customize and Brand a Rev Portal"
"Home Page Settings"
"Manage Custom Fields in Rev"

Upload Initial Content
Upload and organize some initial content in your system so users log in to an environment that has a Home Page, Featured Playlist, and so forth. Decide upon your initial access controls.
"Access the Home Page"
"Upload a Video From Your Hard Drive"
"Upload a Video Through a URL Link"
"Upload a Thumbnail for a Video"
"Set Video Access to All Users"

Define your Search Strategy
Decide if you are going to use subtitles and speech search early. Define the types of keywords and search strategies you will use with your videos and put a system in place that will make your content even easier to find and share.
"Add Subtitles to a Video"
"Speech Search Results"

System Set Up
The following topics help you set up your Rev system environment so that it is prepared for devices, security, transcoding and so forth.

Tip: As noted, you do not have to follow topics in order. That said, it is recommended that you prepare your UI/VOD settings first before you begin setting up your system environment. Otherwise, it is recommended that you set up your user accounts last (if your email server is set up during system set up). If you do not, you risk inviting new users into a “blank” environment.

Security Set Up
Decide on your password and security rules for user accounts if different from the default settings. Set up your email server if you did not do so during implementation. Configure your account for Single Sign On and specify a primary viewing DME if required.
"Configure Security Settings and Password Rules"

"Configure Single Sign On (SSO)"
"The DME User Location Service"
